Welcome!
Are you a bit new to the world of science? Not sure where to start?
I’m Emma, an undergraduate student majoring in Physics. I’m passionate about everything to do with the cosmos, from researching to teaching.
If you’re a science newbie, I highly suggest you start with the Fundamentals. Below, you’ll also find 4 keystone posts that are the most often referenced throughout the blog; if you read nothing else here, you should read those.
On the other hand, if you’re a bit more experienced, head straight on to the Advanced Topics!
Looking for the most recent posts? They now display here!
I’m here to introduce you to the world of science, and hopefully inspire you to love it as much as I do!
News & Updates
The Planetary Science modules have begun!
You can find the current module over here: Astronomy
Just scroll down to “The Solar System”! More posts will be added as I go. Hopefully weekly, but no promises — school has a tendency to get in my way 😉
Find the first module post here: A Solar System Tour

Cosmology is finished!
We’re through the module and the capstone post is live — check it out here: Cosmology Demystified

Special Treat: Globular Clusters!
It’s here, peeps!!!
Long-time readers of my blog will know that there is one subject I have teased a million times over, but never written about: globular clusters.
That’s because, for years, they have been one of the greatest cosmic mysteries. There hasn’t been enough research into their story to tell it…until now!

For more… Globular Clusters: The Untold Story
Satellite Sciences
Check out the Satellite Sciences page — I added “Cosmology” as its own thing in addition to its spot on the “Astronomy” page, and now you can see what the science fields on Satellite Sciences will look like once I have more than 6 posts to display!
Feedback welcome on the actual Cosmology page — it looks too plain to me, feels like something’s missing.
Astro-101 for the win!!
Last week, I started an astronomy course. Yes, a 101. Very much introductory.
I already know a ton of the material from my own extracurricular research, but this is an opportunity to get actual academic feedback on my understanding from an expert. And I get to catch up my academic qualifications with my extracurricular experience.
Fortunately, it’s an accelerated 8-week course, so that should inject some welcome challenge in otherwise familiar topics!
I snagged an eclipse photo!
Full disclosure: I brightened and sharpened the image. It wasn’t naturally this good. But I still think it’s pretty decent, considering my sky was clouded over and my telescope’s alignment was terrible…

I’m on Bluesky now! You can follow me there to keep up with new posts (and use the messaging function to reach out).

Foundational Concepts
Scientific concepts build on one another. The posts below cover foundational concepts that I reference and link back to throughout the blog, so I highly recommend reading these!
Highlights
Here are some of the coolest concepts I’ve covered on this blog — a mix of beginner-friendly and more advanced posts.
Best of Blog
