Alright, so, a couple things…
Yes, I’m back!
I spent most of 2023 working on my first novel, to the detriment of pretty much all my other projects. But the first draft is now complete — ringing in at 158,000 words — and I now have the bandwidth to return to other creative endeavors…
…which brings me to an announcement I’ve been very excited to make!
My astrophotography showcase blog, risingstargazer.com, is now live.
As soon as I get some clear skies, I’ll be getting back to that. But in the meantime, here’s one of my better photos from last year, for your viewing pleasure…
You can now also find my astrophotography over here.
Yes, I’m also resuming regular weekly posts here on ScienceAtYourDoorstep.com!
If you missed it, be sure to check out last week’s post on dark matter. Slated for this week is a post on galaxy clusters.
Which brings me to…
This blog’s ten-year anniversary is coming on April 23, 2024!
…right after a total solar eclipse!
Originally, I had planned to travel to view totality. Those plans have unfortunately fallen through. But for this anniversary occasion, I do have some celebrations in store…
- I’m going to finish our current topic — galaxies — by mid-April, setting the stage for moving on to one of my favorite topics — cosmology!
- Either before or after we move on to cosmology, I’ll be working on a slew of new posts, designed with the beginner in mind, to help round out this blog’s content.
- I’ll also have a big focus on finding the best ways to make everything you want to read easier to find, whether that’s fundamentals or more advanced topics.
And…drumroll please…
On its anniversary, this blog will be renamed “Cosmos at Your Doorstep.”
Some of you might have seen this one coming. Ever since I bought the domain name “scienceatyourdoorstep.com” way back in 2017, I’ve telegraphed plans to post about every field of science under the sun. But from day one, only astronomy has dominated this blog.
Yup, there’s no denying it. That’s my passion. While I’m still interested in occasionally writing about other subjects, astronomy is my main focus.
I’ve already bought the domain name “cosmosatyourdoorstep.com”. In fact, you can reach this blog by typing that into your web browser. For now, “scienceatyourdoorstep.com” remains the default, and will display regardless of what you type in.
Rest assured, I am keeping both domain names.
Nothing on your end will change. You’ll still be able to access it via “scienceatyourdoorstep.com” or “cosmosatyourdoorstep.com”; take your pick! But the blog title, displayed in the header image, will change to “Cosmos at Your Doorstep.” And the default url displayed in your address bar will update to match.
And one final note…
I’m going back to school in August!
Some of you may know that I previously attended a four-year institution until Spring 2019, and I also attended community college back in Spring 2021. Unfortunately, certain extenuating circumstances thwarted my efforts back then.
I’m now going back to school, under my own power, to complete my Associate’s Degree at last.
I’m announcing that partly because I’m super excited! But also because, beginning August 2024, I’ll need to put my academics first. I’m not sure what kind of rhythm I’ll fall into for publishing posts here. Just a forewarning 🙂
I’m excited. Are you guys excited? 😀
Stay tuned for this week’s post on galaxies!

Did I blow your mind? 😉
